I finally did it!!! I had to finish my schoolwork before i could focus on this, but yeah.
first etsy listing.
you can click here to see more!
I’m still not sure about my shop name though… idk.
I’ll be selling that top, when i figure how to take decent pictures.
i spent so much time working on it, not being able to take pictures i like has been driving me nuts for the past hour. I just don’t know what to do… I don’t want to be in the picture, but i don’t have anyone to be in it. And the ones on the hanger don’t look right.
i’ll try and take pictures tomorrow again.
Finished the front in 4 hours… that was fast.
All I have left to do is the back, then the borders, then the sleeves, stretch them out really nicely, put the press studs and all the finishes, , wash it with softeners, then wear and pose like a diva ! Should be ready sometime this week. I just need white buttons and a white shirt.
That’s how far I’ve gotten (?) tonight.
that yarn is itchy tho. I put a shitload on softener on it ! Now the other side, then homework… I should be in bed around 2. For some reason, I get so motivated RIGHT before sleep.
I’m making a sweater with some chunky yarn. I should be done this week. The yarn is really cute, the colour is very beautiful but it’s a bit itchy. I don’t think I’ll use this one for things I plan to sell. It’s not gonna work lol. I’m not surprised, it was really cheap.
A hat and a flower that I made with the same yarn. I like that colour for a flower. I put it on my altar with a pink quartz because it’s cute.
I’m currently writing the pattern for that hat. It’s really not easy considering that I’m doing it in two languages and I have no experience in pattern writing. When I’m done, I’ll ask a few crocheters to proof read it for me if they like. Who would like to? You can read the french or the english version, depends on you.
I still have some of that yarn. I’ll see if i can make some sort of collar with it. I’m buying some more in this colour next month or so, i want to make leg warmers with it.
On how people like free stuff too much.
I finished my essay. I ran my ass off to the school in order to get there on time, only to realize I wasn’t even late. My teacher was just peacefully chatting outside the school. Whatever. I hope to have at least 30/50, but I’m not sure. I left so many good things out my work, 1000 words isn’t that much.
My classmates (3 of them) want me to make them beanies, but I’m not sure how good of an idea that is. I think they don’t really realize this is hard work, and yarn is expensive. If I must pay R30 for the yarn I’ll use for your beanie, crochet it for 5-6 hours (cables y’all, cables. this is serious) using a pattern I made, I won’t charge you R30. They were even like “why we gotta pay?” uhm, scuze the fuck out of me, what?
Even if I’m working for 6 hours on minimum wage, I’ll make more than that. At least R100 or so. I’m still buying the yarn, but I’ll confirm the price first with them.
I’m thinking of charging R120. I saw some hand knitted (acrylic) gloves in a store, they were about R130. Since I’m making a not so easy pattern that I drafted myself, and I’m not buying my yarn wholesale, does it seem fair ? Anyway, I’ll write the pattern down tonight and make another version of the same beanie, but a bit more slouchy ! Pictures will be uploaded sometime today, I have to run to the store before it closes !
oh, btw R20 = $15.53 today.
So what do you think ?
post on my other blog. I don’t like that name it’s too random.
For the stuff I hand make for other people, I charge materials + a decent hourly wage (like minimum $8 CAD — for friends and close family).
I get exploited enough by the capitalist system that I refuse to accept it when I have full control over how much to value my labour and time.
Well said. Here in SA, the minimum wage is much lower than that. They have a bit of a confusing system, but a sales assistant in retail in Johannesburg gets around R17 per hour on minimum wage. So I calculated based on R20, plus the yarn ! If people can’t afford that, it’s okay. I know we’re all broke students and what not, but I still gotta eat!

stuff would fall out of it, wouldn’t it?
you would need to sew the sides.
